BØRNEfonden is a private Danish sponsor organization, which started in 1972. BØRNEfonden has no religious and political liaisons. BØRNEfonden is politically and religiously independent.

OUR BASIC PRINCIPLES ARE

• Sustainable Development
  The development work carried out by BØRNEfonden takes place in close co-operation with the families, who participate in the management and development of activities and institutions in order to ensure that the local population is prepared to take ownership of these institutions and continue their development when BØRNEfonden moves its efforts to other communities.
• Combating Poverty
  BØRNEfonden puts emphasis on assistance that prevents the perpetuation of poverty by creating a lasting basis of living for people to exert influence on their own lives, and to play an active part in local community life.
• The Individual Child
  BØRNEfonden works for the individual child helping it to achieve better health, education and more independence together with its family and in harmony with its local community.
• The Sponsor and The Child
  To BØRNEfonden, the relation between a child and its sponsor is valuable and it is important that the sponsor becomes aware of the effect of his/her support by following the sponsored child’s development.
• Responsibility Towards The Recipients
  BØRNEfonden wishes to continue and finish the development activities for the children and families - even if a sponsorship ceases – and to continue the work in the local community, also if  it is threatened by natural or man-made disasters.
• Co-operation and Respect
  BØRNEfonden gives assistance regardless of the recipients’ political and religious affiliation and wishes to establish good working relationships with relevant authorities and organisations. Respecting the culture, environment and political and religious persuasions of the individual person and their local community, BØRNEfonden works actively to comply with these principles and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
• Sponsorship Through Other Organisations
  When BØRNEfonden co-operates with organisations whose guidelines as to the individual items deviate from those of BØRNEfonden, donors are clearly notified of such differences.
• Efficiency and Openness
  By virtue of careful methods of control and evaluation, BØRNEfonden is transparent in finance and development results showing that our work is reliable and that the funds entrusted to us by the sponsors are used in an effective and goal-oriented manner.
